Cloonacauneen Castle has stood on the Tuam Road for centuries. Today, its tower, rooms and gardens welcome guests for stays, weddings, dining and private celebrations.

Cloonacauneen Castle is one of Galway's distinctive tower houses, rising above the Tuam Road with ivy-covered stone, old rooms and countryside views close to the city.
The building's history is part of the experience, but the castle is not a museum piece. It is a working hospitality destination with rooms, weddings, the Conservatory, Bar 1490 and private celebrations moving through the old spaces.

Cloonacauneen is a Norman tower house that has stood on the Tuam Road for over five centuries. Rising more than fifty feet above the surrounding countryside, its stone spiral staircase, thick walls and ancient kitchen speak to a time when it served as a centre of power and gatherings in the west of Ireland.
Ownership records date to 1574, when Richard Beag Burke held the castle. It passed through several families — the Blakes, and later a Mr. Fair of Ballinasloe — before falling into disrepair by the early 1900s.

In 1963, the Lenihan family took on the castle and set about restoring both the tower and the adjacent house — re-roofing the buildings and raising the battlements to their original height. Subsequent owners continued the work, transforming Cloonacauneen into the hospitality destination it is today.
